DESIGN MEETS CULTURAL DIPLOMACY

“Alfabetul Armean, Inima culturii armene” — “The Armenian Alphabet, the Heart of Armenian Culture”

Conceived for Culese din Armenia -“Gathered from Armenia” (Bucharest, 2022), this three-metre mirrored cube explored Armenia’s visibility and cultural survival. Its exterior reflected historic Armenian manuscripts, a metaphor for a country often seen only through its past. Inside, an infinite constellation of Armenian letters revealed the alphabet as a means of preserving culture across generations. Inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms, the installation invited visitors to discover a culture from within.

A CULTURAL SKY FULL OF STARS

Culese din Armenia brought Centrul Cultural Subcarpați and the Union of Armenians in Romania together to build a cultural bridge through music, dance and contemporary art. The collaboration united artists from Armenia and Romania, including Subcarpați, Karin Folk Group, Hayk Karoyi, Vardavar Dance Ensemble, Cuscrew and Floare de Maidan, in a shared celebration of tradition and creative exchange.

For a closer look at the event and the installation’s concept, explore the interview by Andreea Tănase by clicking HERE.

Connecting the alphabet’s past and future, motion graphics artist Cuscrew created mapping projections featuring Hrant Jaghinyan’s contemporary interpretations of Armenian lettering, bringing a new visual language into dialogue with the historic manuscripts.
